Meet Tweedy! Hedgehog Fibres latest and innovative offering. Now in a variety of colours, some in collaboration with other dyers.
The original HHF Tweedy's are Natural and Noir. They are a DK/8ply Tweed yarn with the coloured neps being their own hand-dyed waste - the ties that taken off the hand dyed skeins.
Soot has been created in collaboration with Wool and Company to help reduce their yarn waste and turn it into something beautiful. Soot is a medium grey, universally flattering shade.
Future Reflections (blue) and Dreaming in Light (yellow) is a HHF collaboration with Madelinetosh, two industry-leading hand-dyed yarn companies, have joined forces to develop a limited-edition yarn.
“With this yarn we have created a revolutionary new model for upcycling and collaboration,” said Laura Zander, CEO of Madelinetosh. “Sustainability is a growing priority in the knitting and fashion worlds and by incorporating bright Madelinetosh flecks into this product, we were able to recycle yarn remainders while also prioritizing collaboration over competition. Now more than ever, it’s time for women-led companies to come together, disrupt old norms, and bring something beautiful into the world.”
HHF have been collecting the ties for a while and found a mill that could process these, which means re-carding them, blending and spinning into yarn again. We have a batch of this lovely greyish tweed yarn with colourful speckles - neutral with a colourful bit here and there. It comes in one colourway only.
In addition to the thread waste is recycled wool, making 50% of the total content recycled. It's soft, yet woolly and not superwash. It blooms beautifully after washing.
The composition is:
50% Falkland Merino Wool
37.5% Recycled wool
12.5% Thread waste
