In preparation for Winter, we are busy adding to our hand knits. Our latest beanie is the Twisted Beanie using the Able Cable Beanie pattern on Ravelry. The beanies are knitted in various wonderful yarn blends like cashmere and wool or alpaca and silk. We don't think they'll last long.
We particularly like supporting and stocking our local Alpaca breeders. We are pleased to announce we now have Keiana Lodge Alpaca instore and online. This is beautiful, softly spun yarn from quality breeders - local producers who mill in Australia. Keiana Lodge specialise in black fleece, although produce a wide range of natural colours. My favourite so far is Diatello. For those who can make it to the shop, we also have some limited hand dyed balls.
Our popular antique and collectibles cabinets have been restocked, including vintage crystal necklaces and beautiful antique brooches.
Today we added a selection of Superfine baby wool to our collection. We now offer a good range of baby wool, including Jamieson & Smith, Eki Riva Baby Alpaca and a range of specials. Remember, our 4 ply's in Zauberball, Noro Sock and Opal also make great baby and toddler knits, we well as our range of beautiful hand dyed yarns.
Ashford's prices have risen for 2015. We have two Traditionals and a Traveller in the shop at 2014 prices. One of each is made up and ready to go.
Our first shipment of Jagger Spun has arrived and we are loving it. We are stocking Heather and the Maine Line - both pure wool Sport Weight - as well as Super Lamb and Zephyr Silk Wool, which are both lace weight. A range of colours is available in each yarn type and the quality is superb. We can't wait to start projects with them - just need to choose the project and which yarn. It's a tough life!
There's been a bit of pre-Christmas activity with the following making their way into the shop over the last week: Popcorn guarding the Ashford delivery Ashford Spinning Wheels - 2 Traditional and 2 Travellers Kaalund Yarn - stocking up on silk and mink Mudgee Superfine Wool - solid honest 8 ply merino at a budget price a selection of popular shawl pins Pop in for a look. Plenty of ideas for Christmas.
Yesterday the shop was jam-packed with enthusiastic knitters. The Mudgee Knitters' Guild made a trip to Rylstone to visit us and have their Christmas lunch. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and we certainly benefitted from their trip - I think a few more orders will now need to be placed to restock. Thank you for your good wishes and hope you have a good Christmas. Gemma and I aim to get to Guild meetings as often as the shop permits.
Look out for news on the show knitting front in the coming weeks as we both prepare entries for the local Agricultural Shows (Rylstone/Kandos, Sofala, Mudgee). There are reputations to be upheld and lots of exciting products in the store to use for those beautiful shawls we are hoping to present for judging. I'm doing mine in the Jamieson and Smith 1ply (cobweb) in natural and Margot's is a secret for now, but I'm sure all will be revealed soon.
Now we're set up, we're a bit more confident about promoting the shop - we know we have lots of stock and the shop looks established. Our main strategies are aimed at knitters through Ravelry, the online knitting site, and also tourists via some of the key tourist publications and local tourist organisations, as well as brochures placed in many of the places visitors are likely to see them. However, one of the best approaches is to be highly visible - we are in a lovely old building and whilst...
Something you won't see in many shops in Australia. We have a selection of Wollmeise for discerning knitters, including some lace weight.
We continue to add stock to the shop, particularly as we get feedback and see what people like. Ordered and coming soon, includes: Hedgehog Fibres - a generous order of Kidsilk Lace and Sock Yarn - given how fast it has left us so far. This will be available online for anyone who can't get to the shop. I'd advise to get in quickly to avoid disappointment. Hoping these will arrive prior to Christmas. Mudgee Superfine Wool - mainly 8ply and great value for those who are after a reliable...
